Welcome to Overweight children - info for Parents!
Hi, my name is Wayne Coleman. I am the owner and author of this site. There has been a great deal of work put into this site. I have a wealth of knowledge to share with you, thanks to extensive work and research done when earning my undergraduate and graduate degrees in Sociology, Psychology, Nutrition, and Family Dynamics. This site is ever-changing, and you will always find the latest and most helpful information.
Here, you will find everything you need to help your child with their weight issues, family concerns, from books to videos. Eventually, you will be able to email your questions and get answers from top experts in the field. Rest assured, your privacy is going to be our number # 1 concern, so there will be no need to worry about what you write and what you ask.
This site is here for YOU. You see, if you have an overweight child or if you are an overweight child you likely, you likely suffer lowered self esteem or other issues. Most likely you wish to lose weight. And just as likely, no matter how much you have tried to accept your obesity you just cannot. Why? Because self worth is largely determined by appearance.
No matter how unfair that seems, the truth remains appearance is a key factor to our self worth. Thus, how your son or daughter feels about themselves will often be reflected in how they look. If that was not true people would not run to buy certain brands of clothing or other products... The brand itself often carries power. The kind of power that allows you to proclaim that you measure up, that you one of the in people. Statistics show, even, that overweight people are less likely to marry then others.
So the question is what are you to do to help your overweight child? Is your child overweight or is it simply a stage your child is going through? With the site blog you will be kept informed about the latest research, findings, and resources available to you as parents of overweight or obese kids. We provide you the tools to help you actively work with your child’s doctor to help face and fight obesity.
A recent study led by Professor John Morrison at Cincinnati Children's Hospital shows that overweight children suffer with high cholesterol, high blood pressure and sugar levels, and are at an increased risk for heart disease or strokes. Losing weight significantly lowers and reverses these health risks. As the United States faces an ever-increasing waist line, some doctors and nutritionist are concerned that parents' attempts kids fitness to keep their kids "healthy" will actually cause a backlash of poor choices, low self-esteem, and possibly eating disorders. Our site will help you to create a safe plan of action for your child and your family. Teaching kids how to eat what they need without overeating, and allowing them to sample a wide variety of foods will allow them to live healthy and avoid unwise and dangerous pitfalls such as teenage drug addiction, emotional issues, and alcoholism. You will discover that this site is full of helpful information to help you to be a more happy person
